Prawning Report – Farmart Prawning – 1st Trip
Had some free time yesterday night and my hands were itchy! Decided to head down to one of the places I haven’t been to in a very long time, Farmart!
Located at Farmart Centre, No. 67 Sungei Tengah, SG(699008), this pond has been around for as long as I can remember. Talking to the staff running the counter, he mentioned that the pond has been in operation for over 10 years! This just might be the oldest prawning pond still in operation in Singapore.
One thing I didn’t know was that the name of the pond was actually not Farmart Prawning, but ‘Farm’s Village’! How did I find out? Take a look at their receipt below:
Pricing-wise, $33 is pretty standard as compared to the rest of the ponds in Singapore, so no complaints!
I was packing my prawning gear into a new box I had just purchased and guess what. No, I didn’t forget my prawning rod, I forgot my sinker! I asked the staff there if he had one and he offered to loan me his personal sinker. I got to say, this thing was super seasoned! I didn’t manage to get a picture of it as I was in a hurry to get it back to him, but he mentioned that it’s 15 years old and he had bought it when it was first released in Taiwan. Impressive!
The bite rate was pretty good that night. Surprisingly good to me because I had remembered that it wasn’t too fantastic in the past (my last visit was probably 5 years ago at least). I did remember that the mozzies here were super commando mozzies though, so while I forgot my sinker, I remembered to bring my trusty OFF mosquito repellent! Maybe the bite rate had something to do with the new bait I was testing out hmmmm….
I got this for free from PrawnMart with some stuff I had bought.
Not too sure if it was the bait, but the bites were definitely coming on strong for the first hour! I actually caught 12 prawns in just the first hour alone.
Pretty good night overall, ended up with 28 prawns for the night. Had quite a few tiny ones that I’m intending to fry up whole with batter to make crunchy prawn snacks. Will try it out and update again! The overall weight was just 700 grams though…
Here’s some more shots I took of Farmart:
